If I Were Human
You say I wouldn't understand because of what I am.
See, to my eyes, you all are extraterrestrials.
I'm in an alien world, breathing in foreign air.
Singing strangers' songs, but here's one of my own.
Though I have to tell it in your alien tongue.
If I were human just like the rest of you.
I would delight in every shade of the rainbow's hue.
I wouldn't hurl my words around without a clue.
Oh if I were human like you.
If I were a person like the fellers that you meet.
I'd be sincerely grateful for the earth beneath my feet.
I wouldn't be so mean to the neighbours that you eat.
Oh if I were a person you'd meet.
Now you earthlings just don't realise what a deal you've got.
Why won't you take a look and give it a valiant shot.
Whether you're a mathematician, an electrician or librarian.
You even take for granted being homosapien.
If I were a gentleman like that mister in his car.
I'd hop right out and walk since I've already gone too far.
I wouldn't change the trees from being what they are.
Oh if I were a gentleman in his car.
Now you earthlings just don't realise what a deal you've got.
Why won't you take a look and give it a valiant shot.
Whether you're a mathematician, a politician or librarian.
You even take for granted being homosapien.
If I had a human heart just like you claim to own.
I'd laugh and cry and love and not live in monotone.
I wouldn't beat in rhythm to the traffic and telephone.
Oh if I had a human heart of my own.
If I had a human heart, if I had a human heart,
If I had a human heart of my own.
Shelter
Come into my shelter.
Let me, keep you dry and warm.
When down comes the cold and pouring rain.
Come and rest beneath dear.
You can, sit upon my roots.
Till the clouds are clean and white again.
I was your friend when the thunder, crashed into your heart with fear.
I’ve become just a figment of this, landscape you’ve built around here.
But it’s alright. I’ll always be your shelter.
Come into my shelter.
Let me, cool you in my shade.
When the blazing sun is climbing high.
Make yourself a bolster
From the, fallen leaves at my feet.
Dream away with me and the afternoon sky.
We played your hide and seek and, every charming childhood game.
I’ve faded into just an, ornament without a name.
But it’s alright. I’ll always stand here just the same.
Oh I exist. Oh I hope you see that
I belong here, don't I? Don't I?
No you don't hear me. No you don't know me.
No it's alright.
Now what does it matter
If I, live or die in vain.
Blindfold and cut me down today.
You could be my shelter.
If you, wanted me at all.
But who needs a big old tree anyway?
I gave you all my flowers I’ll, never stop to wonder why.
I’ve become just a figment of the, memories of years gone by.
But it’s alright. I’ll be your shelter till I die.
Come into my shelter.
Someday, you could be mine too.
